ABOUT ANDREAS
Dear Neighbors,
My name is Andreas Migias, and I am running to be your next state assemblymember for the 34th District in Astoria, Jackson Heights, Corona, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, and Woodside.
Born and raised in Astoria, I am the grandson of Greek immigrants who arrived in the early 1970s. Both my parents were first-generation college students, and their efforts to better themselves instilled in me the values of education, hard work, and community. My entire education, from P.S. 122 Q to Townsend Harris High School, Binghamton University, and eventually Brooklyn Law School, was a product of the public school system—a place where I saw those values put into practice. Having benefited directly from the public institutions my family believed in, I want to strengthen these opportunities through a career in public service. But today, these values are under threat.
Our politicians are failing the hardworking families who live in this district. The prices of essentials are out of control: from housing and healthcare, to groceries and education. But wages haven't kept up. We are seeing young people, longtime neighbors, and families being priced out. This moment demands new leadership grounded in the reality of these challenges.
I am not waiting.
I am fighting to make healthcare transparent and affordable.
I am fighting to lower the cost of rent, groceries, childcare, and utilities.
I am fighting to make our schools the best in the country.
For the last three years, I have been the youngest appointed member of Queens Community Board 1. As co-chair of the Land Use Committee, I have confronted the affordable housing crisis head-on and I am fighting to ensure that new developments benefit our neighbors and not wealthy real estate conglomerates.
My professional background includes positions at the New York City Council, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the New York State Insurance Fund. As part of my roles, I have drafted legislation and contributed to implementing new regulations.
I am committed to building a new generation of leadership in New York politics and the Democratic party. Together, we can bring new energy to our government and build a future that works for everyone.
